History in The Making
The Art of a Winemaker
What makes one bottle different from the next? The type of grape, the soil, the climate, and the technique of the winemaker all make every bottle of wine distinct. Every winemaker knows what makes a good wine, but there still are stories to be told on how to make it great.
At 1000 Stories we take a different approach. One that is unique to our history and family. Years ago when we started out, wine barrels were not widely available, and oak barrels were meant for whiskey, not wine. But we still needed barrels to age our wine, so we purchased (and neutralized) used bourbon barrels. Today, wine barrels are a highly common practice, but aging 1000 Stories in bourbon barrels is a nod to the way things were, and how we came to be.
1000 Stories Zinfandel
1000 Stories begins its aging like most Zinfandels: in wine barrels. Then, the tradition transitions to innovation. Each batch is crafted individually and is unique in its final profile. Aging in bourbon barrels imparts characteristics of charred vanilla and dried herbs, with a ripe raspberry character indicative of Mendocino County’s sun-drenched Zinfandel wines.
